Ashley McMahon, Social Work Intern

Ashley received her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Minnesota-Duluth in 2015. During her time there, she had the opportunity to intern at a partial hospitalization program for children and adolescents with a wide range of mental health needs.  Ashley gained skills in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which focuses on interpersonal effectiveness , distress tolerance, emotion regulation and mindfulness. Ashley also gained knowledge in alternative therapies such as art therapy, music therapy and equine therapy. This experience drove her to pursue her master’s degree in Social Work at UW-Madison.

Ashley has experience working with children and adolescents, but is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of working with families and clients of all ages. Her preferred modalities of therapy include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Through CBT and DBT, Ashley hopes to encourage clients to find their “life worth living”, identify their strengths and incorporate mindfulness as needed.
Ashley will be an intern with Oregon Mental Health Services through early May 2019.
